2018 District 3 Conference - Vice-Chairs

August 13, 2018 - The USW will be holding its 2018 District 3 Conference on the theme "Our Unity. Our Strength". It will be held in Kamloops, BC, at the Coast Kamloops Hotel & Conference Centre, from October 30 to November 1, 2018.

The conference will include workshops (please see list below), speakers and lots of discussion on the issues important to Steelworkers across the District.
 
USW Local 1944 will be selecting an additional 3 Unit Vice-Chairs to attend the District 3 Conference.

Steelworkers Humanity Fund: What the Humanity Fund is, its actions, and how Locals get involved.
 
Drug & Alcohol Issues in the Workplace: Current developments in the law on drug and alcohol testing in the workplace; how Locals can be proactive dealing with substance issues.
 
Psychologically Healthy & Safe Workplaces: How we can make sure our workplaces are healthy, and safe from psychological harm.
 
New Media & Messaging for Local Unions: New and changing ways to communicate with the membership.
 
USW Steward Tools: Discussions with other steward and practical ideas to help stewards in their work.
 
Health & Safety Contract Language: Why do we bargain more than the legislation provides? Practices and techniques to strengthen a Collective Agreement safety language.
 
Dealing with Bullying & Harassment: Practical tools to help Local Unions deal with bullying and harassment issues.
 
Representing Workers who are new to Canada: Understanding the issues and discussing how to better represent workers who are new to Canada in your workplace.
 
Making Our Voices Heard: Lobbying do's and don'ts so we can make sure public decision makers value USW members and the work we do.
 
How to Engage & Mobilize Your Membership: Practical tools to communicate, educate and move the membership to action on issues that are important to the Union.
 
Protecting Our Jobs from Contracting Out: Different tactics and best practices to protect bargaining unit work from contracting out.
 
Please note that a charity will be organized for the local Tampon Tuesday Campaign; members are encouraged to bring sanitary products or money for donation.
 
Unit Vice-Chairs interested in participating in the District 3 Conference are invited to submit an application for consideration. The deadline to apply is Friday, August 17, 2018 at 4:30 pm (Pacific Time).
