Once again this year, the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) will host students from across BC at their Winter School at Harrison Hot Springs from January 15 to 20, 2023.
USW Local 1944 is aware of Telus’ abuse of compulsory overtime language under the Collective Agreement. In response, we are filing a policy grievance against the practice of forcing compulsory overtime when members already have scheduled vacations. We are also supporting the filing of grievances where the scheduling of compulsory overtime violates other provisions of the Canada Labour Code.

November 23, 2022

As you may be aware, your current Collective Agreement is set to expire on November 30, 2022. With that in mind, your Bargaining Committee has been elected at your Q3 Unit meeting. They are Al Pasternak and Bev Gordon! Al brings experience and continuity from having served your last Bargaining Committee and Bev brings fresh eyes and ideas. Your elected members will be supported at the table by a Staff Representative from the USW as well as a Local Union Representative from Local 1944.

Once again this year, the Alberta Federation of Labour (AFL), in partnership with the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC), will be hosting students from across Alberta at their Winter School at Jasper Park Lodge from January 9-13, 2023. USW Local 1944 calls for members to submit applications to attend, from which only a few will be selected.

Several exciting topics will be discussed, such as Collective Bargaining, Conflict Management, Labour History, Standing in Solidarity with Indigenous Peoples and more.

We’ve posted various materials on our Digital Union Board that promote the amazing 97% Strike Mandate you gave your Committee and other bargaining-related materials.
The BC Federation of Labour holds its 60th Constitutional Convention from November 21 to 25, 2022. If you are interested in being a USW Local 1944 Delegate, please submit your application here.
When the Company chose to bargain directly with YOU last week by emailing you a summary of their offer on the same day they presented it to your Bargaining Committee, they were attempting to undermine your Union. They felt that they had the ‘pulse’ of the Members and that you’d buy what they were selling.
As mentioned in Bargaining Update #17, your Bargaining Committee is holding Strike Mandate Vote meetings to be able to clearly show Telus that we are not backing down.
