USW Local 1944 now has a Digital Union Board! We’ve received feedback from our members that our Union boards need updating on a more consistent basis. As such, your Union Boards Committee has been hard at work cataloguing our current network of boards in an effort to revamp 1944’s presence in the workplace.

Every year on April 28, we recognize the National Day of Mourning across Canada. This day is dedicated to remembering and honouring those who have lost their lives, or suffered injury or illness on the job. This year it hits especially close to our Local. It will have been 16 days since we lost our Brother Keith Murphy to a fatal workplace accident.

Local Union 1944 is heartbroken to announce the death of Brother Keith Murphy, who was killed on the job in a workplace accident in the early hours of April 12, 2022.
 
Brother Murphy has worked as an Access Technician for Telus since 2015 and hailed out of Unit 4 in the Kootenay region of Eastern British Columbia.
March 25, 2022 - The results are in from yesterday’s 2022 Local By-Law Change Ratification ballot.

March 24, 2022 - Today is the 2022 Local By-Law Ratification Vote regarding two proposed amendments to the USW Local 1944 By-Laws that were approved by delegates at last year’s Local Union Delegated Meeting.

March 23, 2022 - Tomorrow, Thursday, March 24 is the 2022 Local By-Law Ratification Vote regarding two proposed amendments to the USW Local 1944 By-Laws that were approved by delegates at last year’s Local Union Delegated Meeting. These proposals were explained in a previous hotline and can be found here.

Due to an overwhelming demand, we have added 3 additional Shop Steward courses! These 3 additional sessions will be held in ENGLISH only. Again, if you would prefer to be taught in French, please wait to register, as we’ll be announcing a FRENCH session soon. Each offering will have a capacity of 14 participants.
