November 5, 2019 - “I was at the legislature late into the night on Wednesday, October 30, listening to debate of Bills 20 and 21 at second reading,” said Acting President Donna Hokiro. “UCP’s broken promises are going to hurt a lot, especially to those most vulnerable. We, regular workers, will be left to pay for the government’s giveaways to the rich."

October 25, 2019 - On October 23 and 24, 2019, meetings were held in Langley and Burnaby respectively for Unit 60 members under the Vancouver/Richmond, Surrey/Langley and Abbotsford Shaw Collective Agreements. The purpose of these meetings was to discuss and vote upon a proposal to change the financial institution that members’ RRSP funds would be initially deposited at to the Bank of Montreal.

Each of the three Unit 60 bargaining units (Vancouver/Richmond, Surrey/Langley, and Abbotsford) decide independently whether the change is ratified for that bargaining unit alone.

October 18, 2019 - USW Local 1944 endorses the NDP in the Federal Election. The reason is simple: the NDP is the only party that will properly invest in services that people need, make life and housing more affordable, implement pharmacare and affordable child care, protect and improve public and private pension plans, and address the climate issue while creating sustainable jobs.

October 18, 2019 - IBEW 213 members employed at Ledcor LTS in BC have been on strike since October 1, 2019. These members perform contract work on Telus’ fibre-optic network.

October 7, 2019 - We wish to advise everyone that Jordan Mohle has resigned from his Trustee position on the Local 1944 Executive Board. We thank Brother Mohle for all the work that he contributed since taking on this role in 2016. We are pleased to inform that Ross Brown, a Plant brother working at Telus in the Lower Mainland of BC, has stepped up to take on the role of Trustee.

October 4, 2019 - On Wednesday, September 25th, Peter Massy, a legendary activist of our predecessor Union, the Telecommunications Workers Union, passed away after a prolonged battle with cancer.

October 3, 2019 - The USW District 6 Women’s Committee and USW Local 1998 will be co-hosting a one-day workshop on October 5th in Toronto, ON, under the theme “Women can make it happen: Finding your balance and your voice.”
