Freedom Mobile members ratify first collective agreement.
We would like to thank each one of the 110 members who attended yesterday's ratification meetings on the first collective agreement between the TWU, USW Local 1944 and Freedom Mobile. We have communicated with the Company to inform them of the vote results, and will now move forward with the administrative process of producing copies of your new collective agreement for all members once the final document has been produced.
There were respectful discussions and spirited discourse throughout the meetings, all of which are building blocks for the development of Unit 505 in Windsor. There was a full review of the union’s campaign of support for each of the members if they had chosen to reject the offer and had the company implemented its threatened lockout.
Although the committee’s recommendation was one of rejection of the tentative agreement, the Local Union respects the results of this democratic vote. The very narrow margin is quite significant; it is a clear indication to the Local that employees of Freedom Mobile expect better from their employer. We will work closely with them to make continuous improvements to their working conditions, and to provide union education and orientation.
We want to thank the bargaining committee, Jay Gannon, Christian Poisson and Tanya Travis-Dunn, for devoting countless hours of their personal time to advancing the cause of employee rights and interests. Our Local Union was blown away by their insight, hard work, and leadership; we commend and celebrate them for it.
