Freedom Mobile Threatens Lock Out Notice
Today, the union and the company’s bargaining committee met with a mediator in Toronto. We showed up to bargain in good faith and we expected the same from the company. However, Freedom Mobile did not.
Instead, Freedom Mobile re-issued their previous offer that our members previously voted to reject and now they are threatening to lock out all bargaining unit members as of 7:00 am on Friday, September 22, 2017 if members do not accept their offer.
“We are extremely disappointed that Freedom Mobile met with the mediator today having no intention to bargain in good faith,” stated Lee Riggs, National President of the TWU, USW National Local 1944. “The company has now taken to threatening our members with a lockout. Freedom’s final offer is a substandard agreement and our members deserve better. It’s unacceptable that Freedom Mobile, a company owned by Shaw Cable Systems that is making millions in profit, would take measures to harm their employees.”
The bargaining committee will be meeting to discuss our next steps and to provide further information to our members in Windsor. More information will be shared tomorrow.
