USW supporters and members are standing up for Windsor!
Making the call: Over the last week or so, a wave of USW supporters across Canada have been making phone calls to Shaw’s corporate HQ in Calgary and to their regional Freedom stores. They are sending a clear message of support for the membership here in Windsor. As one caller reported back to us “I told them to smarten up and do right by these hard working folks”. And another told us: “The person at Shaw took notes and said she would pass information to management. I told her I support union workers with fair contracts and that I would be watching closely what happens”. On your behalf, we thank everyone who had made the call.
And there are more to come!
A beautiful day at Freedom stores in Cambridge
and Kitchener: Remember when USW members
leafleted at two flagship Freedom stores in Toronto a few weeks ago? Well, the positive, upbeat contact with the public continues. Yesterday, USW members in Kitchener and Cambridge leafleted three Freedom stores (two in Cambridge and one in Kitchener). They handed out hundreds of leaflets to
members of the public who were passing by and going into the stores. Feedback from the public was very positive. People support a fair first agreement for us in Windsor. The USW is planning for more leafleting in more cites as needed.
Mediation on September 14: We are meeting with the company’s committee and the federal labour board mediator in Toronto on Thursday. As we said in our last update, the ball is in Freedom Mobile’s court. We’ll be showing up to bargain in good faith and we expect the same from the company. We know that more and more members here in Windsor are ready to stand up for a fair deal. Keep the faith so that we can make
Bryan Adamczyk (USW Staff Rep), Jenn Bucholtz, John Hockley (USW National Local Union 1944 Reps),
Jasen Gannon, Christian Poisson, Tanya Travis Dunn (elected committee members)
