Freedom Mobile Bargaining Update #12

Urgent update from the bargaining table - disappointing news

After a long day and night of back and forth negotiations at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Windsor, we are disappointed to report that an agreement has not yet been reached.

Not productive: At approximately 5:00 am this morning Freedom Mobile management dropped a proposal on the table that is just not acceptable, and said that it was their final proposal. That’s not good bargaining and it’s not productive, because last week when we were in negotiations we were making decent progress.

Freedom’s proposal is too weak on wages and financial gains – that’s no surprise – but it also disrespects the loyalty and service of employees here in Windsor. It proposes, if there are ever layoffs, to let managers pick and choose to keep brand new hires over more proven employees who have been working longer. And there are other issues, like weaker vacation rights.

So now what? We’re 100% ready to be back at the table and keep bargaining, but that will be up to Freedom Mobile. So in the next 24 hours, we’ll announce the date and timing of membership meetings where you can ask questions about what the company seems to be doing, about strike votes and about any aspect of the bargaining. And we’ll also be arranging volunteers to take our message to the buying public, with information to hand out at Freedom’s retail locations.

Shaw and Freedom can afford more fairness for hard-working Freedom Mobile employees here in Windsor.

In solidarity,

Bryan Adamczyk (USW Staff Rep), Jenn Bucholtz, John Hockley (USW National Local Union 1944 Reps), Jasen Gannon, Christian Poisson, Tanya Travis Dunn (elected committee members)
