Bargaining Update #3
Posted 2017-Apr-13

Spread the word - please feel free to provide this to any co-workers who may not be on the distribution list yet.

You will recall that Freedom has so far refused to comply with your union’s request for bargaining unit employees’ contact information. The Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) has repeatedly issued rulings that make it 100% clear: a company’s refusal to provide a union with employees’ home addresses and phone numbers is an unfair labour practice, and the CIRB will order the company to release the information to the union.

On April 6, we filed a formal unfair labour practice complaint to the Canada Industrial Relations Board about the company’s stance in this matter. We are very confident that the Board will require Freedom to do as we have asked, so that we can effectively communicate with all bargaining unit employees.

We are back at the bargaining table April 26 and 27 and then again on May 2, 3, 10 and 11.

“Bargaining last week still had a polite tone, but it is not moving as fast as you – the members – deserve.  Freedom refuses to provide your committee with necessary financial information that we need in order to finalize our wage, benefits and other monetary proposals,” said Lee Riggs, President for TWU, USW National Local 1944.
We will continue our work to bargain a fair collective agreement.

Your Bargaining Committee thanks you for all of the support we are getting from the members.

Together we can build a better future at Freedom.   Keep an eye out for our next update!

In solidarity,

The Telecommunications Workers Union, United Steelworkers National Local 1944
